چکیده
Abstract. Single-pass interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) enables the possibility for sea ice topographic retrieval despite inherent dynamics of ice. InSAR digital elevation models (DEMs) are measuring scattering center height. The height bias induced by penetration electromagnetic waves into snow and leads to inaccuracies DEM, especially thick deformed with cover. In this study, an difference between satellite-measured DEM airborne-measured optical is observed from a coordinated campaign over western Weddell Sea in Antarctica. objective correct generate precise map single-pass data. Snow on Antarctic Sea Ice
Snow on Antarctic sea ice plays a complex and highly variable role in air-sea-ice interaction processes and the Earth’s climate system. Using data collected mostly during the past 10 years, this paper reviews the following topics: snow thickness and snow type and their geographical and seasonal variations; snow grain size, density, and salinity; frequency of occurrence of slush; thermal conduct...
متن کاملSea Ice Classification Using Multi-Frequency Polarimetric SAR Data
This paper discusses the capability of the complex Wishart classifier for sea ice and classification using multifrequency, fully polarimetric SAR data. C-, L-, and P-band data acquired by the JPL AIRSAR in the Beaufort sea was used. Classification using the unsupervised Wishart classifier is a twostage process. An initial classification is required to seed the algorithm and can be derived using...
متن کاملPolarimetric SAR interferometry applied to land ice: first results
This paper presents first results obtained from the analysis of fully polarimetric / interferometric land ice data. It is demonstrated that L-band data from an ice cap located in the percolation zone of Greenland show a strong polarization dependent interferometric behavior. No model-based inversion has yet been attempted, but a radar reflector deployed on the ice surface suggests an effective ...
متن کاملExtraction of Late Summer Sea Ice Properties from Polarimetric Sar Features in C- and X- Band
In this study we examine the potential use of six polarimetric features for interpretation of late summer sea ice types. Five high-resolution C and X-band scenes were recorded in the Fram Strait covering fast first-year and old sea ice. In addition sea ice thickness, surface roughness and melt pond fraction were collected during a helicopter flight at the study area. From the SAR scenes, six po...
متن کاملForest Biomass Estimation using Polarimetric SAR Interferometry
Forest biomass is one of the most important parameters for global carbon stock modelling yet can only be estimated with great uncertainties. Unfortunately, conventional remote sensing techniques for the estimation of forest biomass are not able to provide estimates on a global scale. An alternative approach is based on forest height estimates from single frequency polarimetric-interferometric S...
